About the LOK Project: A Narrative by D.C. Bruins
Legend of the Kha is a science-fiction/fantasy story that follows the adventures of the Kha, four youths transformed into masked heroes with powers over Light, Sound, Motion, and Electricity. The Kha must use their powers to defend their world against the minions of Umbra Magnus, the Great Shadow, as it tries to break free of his ancient prison and wreak its vengeance on the world, returning to the silence that came before life.
The purpose of this dogma is to set the frame for a series of coming-of-age stories of self-actualization. In order for the Kha to succeed they must grapple with the nature of their own personalities, manage the burden of becoming the great heroes of old, and embrace that which makes them truly human. Legend of the Kha began as an art history presentation project on concept art in the fall of 2008 and was developed further to be produced as a series of animated shorts in the fall-spring semesters of my senior year in high school in 2009-2010. While animation or film are high level goals for this project, time constraints and the need to build a foundation of skills in writing and visual communication pushed me back to my first love of comics as a means of telling this story. |
